The New York State Board for Massage Therapy recently held a meeting regarding acceptable continuing education. While nothing has yet been finalized, it appears that 36 hours of continuing education will be required every three years beginning January 1, 2012.
Of the 36 total CE hours only 12 may be in “Self Instruction” however, the term “Self Instruction” has not yet been defined. Courses must be taken through Approved Providers of continuing education, however the requirements for approval of providers have not yet been finalized. Any course topics that are not regulated under massage therapy in New York will not be accepted for continuing education as well as courses related to insurance.
