Description

Discover ways you identify and prevent common skin pathologies. Combining four articles written especially for the Institute's Massage Professionals Update E-newsletter, this brief program will provide insights into:

  • Techniques for removing scar tissue.
  • Identify common skin rashes to determine when massage is contraindicated.
  • Avoiding dry skin due to frequent hand washing.
  • Helping clients cope with sunburn.

In the Skin Pathologies program we've combined four articles written especially for the Institute's Massage Professionals Update. These four articles include:

  • Six Massage Techniques to Remove Scar Tissue - The formation of scar tissue is the body’s natural response to injury. Learn about the long-term effects of scarring, plus the role massage therapy plays in improving a client’s recovery from a wound.
  • Pathology Review: Can You Identify That Rash? - If a client came in with a rash, would you know what to do? Would you recognize it as contagious or infectious? Do you know the difference between hives and poison ivy? Read on to learn about identifying the most common rashes and when massage therapy is contraindicated.
  • How to Avoid Dry Skin from Frequent Hand Washing - Washing your hands before and after every massage client is hygienically necessary, yet doing so typically dries out the skin of healthcare providers. By implementing these five solutions for keeping their hands healthy, massage therapists can avoid the sore and irritable skin damage attributed to frequent hand washing.
  • Massage for Sunburn Healing - Whether you live along the Sunbelt or practice massage therapy in the northern states, clients may come in at almost any time of the year with sunburn. In the summer, it might be after spending too much time at the beach or in the backyard. In the winter months, it could be from skiing or from a holiday spent in a sunny climate. Learn how to help your clients cope with the effects of too much sun exposure.

You can either read the articles by clicking on any of the titles above or upon enrollment you'll be able to access these articles and your online test through your online course account.
